How to Ride the Bus:

Waiting for the Bus
There are more then 3,000 designated bus stop sign locations throughout the Lehigh Valley where you can wait for your bus. If there is no sign, however, Metro buses will generally stop for passengers at the end of all full blocks. If you are in doubt about a stop, check with our customer service representatives for specific information. In rural areas where intersections are farther apart, passengers should "wave" or "flag" the bus as it approaches. This should take place in a well-lighted area and where it will be safe for the driver to pull to the side of the road.

Identifying Your Bus:

Each Metro route has a designated color, letter or number, and destination. The bus on that route displays letter on the destination sign above the windshield, as well as its general destination.

Using these as guides, you can figure out the destination of a bus approaching your stop. As the bus approaches, look for the destination sign above the front window of the bus. That destination sign will tell you where the bus is going. Since a bus route may have different destinations, the destination sign is an important tool in directing you to the right bus.

Paying Your Fare:

For the most current up-to-date fare information, please visit our fares page by clicking here.

Transferring From One Bus To Another:

If you need to change from one bus to another to reach your destination, the cost of the second bus will be just 25¢ when you buy a Metro transfer. Transfers are valid for two hours and cannot be used for return trips or stopovers, but only for ongoing connections. (With the Monthly Pass, transfers are free.)

Ask for a transfer when you board the bus, telling the driver which is your next bus. Deposit 25¢ for the transfer into the fare box. Make sure you check your transfer to see that the driver has punched it correctly. When you get on the second bus, simply give the next driver your transfer. If you need two transfers to reach your destination, you may buy two of them for 50¢. Transfers must be used on the date of issue, before the last time shown on the transfer, and may not be used on the originating route.

Transfer exceptions: if transferring from the Whirlybird Mall Express or the Rover to another route, a passenger must pay full fare (cash or ticket) to ride the Whirlybird and then pay 25¢ to transfer; Seniors (65+) and people with disabilities may only buy a transfer if they have paid a full fare (cash or ticket).

Getting Off The Bus:

When you see that you are reaching your destination, be ready to pull the cord that is above the passenger window. When you pull the cord, a bell will alert the driver that you want to get off the bus at the next designated stop.

Accessible Boarding:

Most LANTA Metro buses are equipped with two (2) wheelchair tie-downs per vehicle. Just look for the wheelchair symbol on the front panel of the timetables, or in front of the row of times inside the timetable. LANTA/Metro's entire fleet of buses is expected to be fully wheelchair accessible by the end of 2006.
